get wicd to connect to the wired network when the daemon starts

How can I get wicd to connect to the wired network when the daemon starts?  The only way my network comes up now is when I either:

1) Log into xfce and the GUI does it
2) Manually connect from wicd-curses to the wired network

Do I need to add a line to /etc/rc.local to have the cli client do it?  This seems like a dirty hack:

/usr/bin/wicd-cli -cz &> /dev/null
