Howdy !
I'm having a little issue today, after an update this morning my KDE session didn't want to launch no more !
I have the error log from KDM :
(==) Log file: "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", Time: Wed May 30 17:20:37 2012
(==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"
(==) Using config directory: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d"
klauncher(1095) kdemain: No DBUS session-bus found. Check if you have started the DBUS server.
kdeinit4: Communication error with launcher. Exiting!
kdmgreet(1089)/kdecore (K*TimeZone*): KSystemTimeZones: ktimezoned initialize() D-Bus call failed: "Not connected to D-Bus server"
kdmgreet(1089)/kdecore (K*TimeZone*): No time zone information obtained from ktimezoned
Despite all it says, I'm fairly certain DBUS is launched (at least the dbus-daemon is running, however I'm not quite sure what the "session-bus" is supposed to be ?).
I'm using the KDE packages from kde-unstable.
Any help ?

Same here, had to revert to 4.8.3, I think the 4.8.80 packages found in unstable are... unstable
The kde-unstable guys usually set up a topic for 4.X pre versions, we may report the issue there when they are ready, I guess

I don't use KDM but had the same problem with KDE not being able to fully start. I figured out that it was because kdeinit4 couldn't start because it was looking for /usr/lib/libudev.so.1. I created a symlink to libudev.so.0, which did exist. It works after that.

hi guys.. I'm using [kde-unstable] repo without problems, are you have [testing] activated?? because is needed. I don't know if is the reason of problems but like @paulbarbee says about symlink, the're a new version of udev in testing, that now was merged in systemd-tools pkg. good luck

You should NOT use this repo yet!
We didn't announce it officially.
The KDE team released a new set of tarballs and postponed the release date to Monday.
I'll not fix any issue until the new set is released.

Whoops! Wish I'd read this before. Downgraded to 4.8.3 successfully but that was a lesson learned!

Understood. Thanks for your great work. We used kde-unstable because archwiki said it's an "official" rom and allow us to report bugs. But since KDE is not officially announced the new 4.9 beta1, we will wait for and look forward to it.

Yeah but things like unstable-kde repos requires minimum of intuition/knowledge. There was no official kde.org announcement, no kde-unstable arch bbs thread, no other premise that beta 1 is ready (either upstream or in repos) AND if you tried google it you would end up on kde-release-team mailing list with whole bunch of information about beta 1 current state. Repo is official but as a name indicates it's unstable - attention is required. I'm also looking forward to test new KDE (on virtualbox), so devs and maintainers* keep rocking, users keep testing and reporting
*bash, you're doing great job, thank you!

[kde-unstable] KDE 4.9 thread is here!
