fastest way to get libreoffice betas on archlinux?

hi,

I noticed that the libreoffice 3.6 series will have a feature that would enormously simplify some work i have to do. So my question is, assuming that i don't want to compile the whole libreoffice, what's the fastest way to instal libreoffice 3.6 betas on archlinux?

Is there some unstable repository that i'm not aware of? Or a way to install deb or rpm packages? Or anything I completely ignore?

thanks

There does not seem to be a libreoffice 3.6 yet. The pre-release on their website is LibreOffice 3.5.4 RC2 (2012-05-24).

If you want a newer version you'll have to get it from the git repository although I don't see any 3.6 even there. Are you sure you weren't looking at a Roadmap of some sort. The feature you're looking at might be planned for the future.

Currently there are pre-release dev-builds for 3.6 here: http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/pre-releases/

BTW, if you're going to compile from git, there's already a libreoffice-git package in the AUR. Perhaps you can adopt it and bring it up to date.

Use abs wink

In trunk there's already a PKGBUILD.36 you may want to try out.

Re: fastest way to get libreoffice betas on archlinux?

I may be missing something, but aren't a lot of these suggestions ignoring the OP's main question: is there somewhere to get it WITHOUT compiling from source.  All these options would require compiling.  That said, the OP probably should do his own search.  Here are a couple of freebies:

You could check through the unofficial repos to see if any of them have it.

Otherwise it is possible to convert a deb and/or rpm.  See here for an example.

Re: fastest way to get libreoffice betas on archlinux?

I was referring to the pre-releases already linked by progandy.

Anyway, it seems it's not possible to get the betas on arch without compiling stuff. I tried to convert the deb packages but in the end I installed a debian virtual machine and then used the deb packages there.

Not the best solution but it works and I don't have to wait until august to use the smart art and the damn contextual space wink

cheers

What problem do you have with compiling?

I'm sure if you start compiling now it will be done before August...

you're right of course, i'm just lazy smile

edit: i have another newbie question. Assuming i compile the beta1 package in one of my machines, is there a way to move the compiled packages in another machine (running arch of course) and installing them directly?

Box, short answer is "yes".  Long answer is "yes, now go read the documentation yourself!" wink

As a pointer in the right  direction, read up on makepkg (and check out the '-U' flag of pacman).
