Hi,
i have recently installed archlinux on my system and i am facing a problem with my Huawei EC1260 wireless modem that i do not face in windows. Everytime i start my connection, i notice that wvdial shows line after line of garbage values (sometimes for 3-4 min at which point i remove the modem) before finally starting pppd and connecting. This is the wvdial log of a successfull attempt :
[dilip@Zeus ~]$ sudo wvdial

[dilip@Zeus ~]$ Almost always, the modem starts to heat up and after 15-20 min crashes (or once in a while goes on for hours though with no problem but thats rare). I have to remove it and let it cool off before starting the connection again. i thought it was a hardware problem (maybe signal loss), but the same modem connects instantly, works fine in windows for hours and the dialer shows a full signal. i have checked this more than once.
On another note, i had installed archlinux on the day the world transitioned from ipv4 to ipv6.
So is it possible that the isp-supplied windows dialer could handle the transition but not wvdial?
Has anyone experienced similar problems with their modems, even if not recently? Also, is it possible to use pppd with an internet modem ?

I would try to add
Stupid mode = 1
in /etc/wvdial.conf, so that wvdial launch pppd immediatly. But the fact that pppd is not stable might indicate a hardware (or driver) problem.
Offline
Stupid mode is already enabled in wvdial.conf. hardware should fail in windows too. i dont think its a driver problem coz lsusb identifies it correctly but i will check anyway.
Thanks anyway.

I finally got my Huawei modem working (different model) using sakis3g (it is in AUR).
