hplip hacking

This is a new approach to an old question of mine, so don't take it too serious...

What I want to reach, is a command that displays ONLY the toner level of my HP laserjet printer.
The command hp-levels displays the level from a shell (with the ugly bar stuff ), but I really only need the levels, for further reasons.

I've seen that the hplip utilities are mostly python scripts. Hp-levels too, so I just wanted to ask if there's someone who is able to get only the numeric value of the toner level, based on the original script.

(P.s.: i find it really annoying to have a completely headless printserver with a cups web-interface that cannot display levels. Everytime you want to know your levels, you have to ssh into the server, run hp-levels, and close ssh.)
