Re: winex

well i know that some of the folks here do game i just don't know any of them that use wine/winex. personally i have never used it but I would suggest that if you are really needing to know just try installing it or making a package for it. again not knowing about wine/winex i would assume that there should be no troubles running it under Arch.

Re: winex

unless u pay for it u have to get the source via cvs, which is beyond me. but most good games (ut/ut2k3) come with a linux version. thats all i really play.  i'd LOVE to see a winex pkg tho big_smile

Re: winex

WineX can't be made into a good package - you'd either have to package the binary (quite illegal, and people on the IRC channels know what kind of horrible things I think should be done to software pirates), or package CVS, which lacks many of the features WineX needs to play most modern games (such as Safe-Disk support).

Last I checked, WineX had a tar.gz package to install, I've not tried it on my Arch laptop (no 3D support for my crap video card), but it should work.  Alternatively, someday, hopefully, we'll be able to "virtually" install RPM package and thus be LSB compliant, but that's not up to me ;-)

Re: winex

Not being much of a games person so I hadnt seen this thread before - but I do have a winex-2.2-1..deb file that I converted to tar.gz and installed.

Got Warcraft III up n running in no time (first game I could lay my hands on).

Hey, I got winex3, it untared pretty nicely just had to move the files into /usr/*. Anyway, I installed counter-strike very easily, but when I go to play it, it just goes to a black screen, I think my depths are wrong for X? Or maybe its something totaly differnt. Post feedback or email karrot-x@superficialtool.net - thanks

Re: winex

Winex3 installed nicely for me as well.  I paid for it though and just used their binary installer.  Actually I used the new Point2Play installer and then used that to install winex3.  WarCraft 3 installed and played perfectly.  Still working on BF1942 though I had some bad memory which has since been replaced.

Re: winex

It's been a while since I installed Halflife, but I do remember that a few arguments to the hl.exe were necessary to let it start, especially skipping the intro movies is important since Wine likes to hang on those. Go read up one of the numerous HL + linux tutorials if you didn't already, it's all explained in there.
