Anyone manage to get winex working on arch yet?
well. apparently gaming isn't a big issue.. no responses yet. Guess i'll go elsewhere.
well i know that some of the folks here do game i just don't know any of them that use wine/winex. personally i have never used it but I would suggest that if you are really needing to know just try installing it or making a package for it. again not knowing about wine/winex i would assume that there should be no troubles running it under Arch.
I am not your friend
unless u pay for it u have to get the source via cvs, which is beyond me. but most good games (ut/ut2k3) come with a linux version. thats all i really play. i'd LOVE to see a winex pkg tho
WineX can't be made into a good package - you'd either have to package the binary (quite illegal, and people on the IRC channels know what kind of horrible things I think should be done to software pirates), or package CVS, which lacks many of the features WineX needs to play most modern games (such as Safe-Disk support).
Last I checked, WineX had a tar.gz package to install, I've not tried it on my Arch laptop (no 3D support for my crap video card), but it should work. Alternatively, someday, hopefully, we'll be able to "virtually" install RPM package and thus be LSB compliant, but that's not up to me ;-)
first im gonna just pretend yet again like i have missed elanthis and the mighty swords' deadly thrust. however on the winex issue, i believe rouslan was usin it or tryin to but i may have mixed him up whit someone else.

Not being much of a games person so I hadnt seen this thread before - but I do have a winex-2.2-1..deb file that I converted to tar.gz and installed.
Got Warcraft III up n running in no time (first game I could lay my hands on).
I made the winex packages and if u have any problems just write me an email or just come into the irc channel there u will find me
maybe I have a perfect signature _someday_
where is the winex packege you talked about? I just found the cvs-tree in a tar.gz at ftp://ftp.archlinux.com/incoming/ but no pkg
you will need to build it your self the license of winex have prohibit that a binary packages may be made of the cvs
just do makepkg -i and it should work
Freedom is what i love
Hey, I got winex3, it untared pretty nicely just had to move the files into /usr/*. Anyway, I installed counter-strike very easily, but when I go to play it, it just goes to a black screen, I think my depths are wrong for X? Or maybe its something totaly differnt. Post feedback or email firstname.lastname@example.org - thanks
Winex3 installed nicely for me as well. I paid for it though and just used their binary installer. Actually I used the new Point2Play installer and then used that to install winex3. WarCraft 3 installed and played perfectly. Still working on BF1942 though I had some bad memory which has since been replaced.
ya i paid for it also, dont know why counter-strike is doing that
It's been a while since I installed Halflife, but I do remember that a few arguments to the hl.exe were necessary to let it start, especially skipping the intro movies is important since Wine likes to hang on those. Go read up one of the numerous HL + linux tutorials if you didn't already, it's all explained in there.

actualy i recomend searching the forums at www.transgaming.com and if your feeling ambitious posting your prob on their forums. i've had many probs resolved from posting there. Granted i droped the 40$ or what ever it was, so i'm a paying customer and they better get it working . anyway lots of info there
Man this is driving me postal
i installed winex( i am a paying customer), all i did was un tar the file in /
and away it goes
but when i go and try install HL it locks up hard
like fluxbox locks up hard no mouse, no ctrl + alt + delete
nada just locks up hard
any idea's what i am doing wrong?
if you are a paying customer, get the .rpm file and unpackage that and that works wonders, i got it working just fine. if you need help, just post again
i got a lot of games working
max payne 1
max payne 2
monkey island 3
monkey island 4
call of duty
gta vice city
neverwinter nights - toolkit.
so i think it has a lot of potential
but all of them are not working 100% as i would want to. but atleast they work at all.
