K3b crashes!

I've just updated the latest k3b version, and I haven't tested it yet.
Somewhat when the program closes, it'll crash with the message

"The application k3b crashed and caused the signal 6 (SIGABRT)".

This happens everytime. Is this a bug?

Re: K3b crashes!

I have latest k3b in current (k3b 0.12.2-1) and I don't get that error. Are you using the one from the testing repo?

Re: K3b crashes!

I think it's from EXTRA repo, because i have testing and unstable commented out.

Re: K3b crashes!

Sorry, missed out this. My version is the same as yours, and I've just checked, it's the latest one.

Re: K3b crashes!

Is the rest of your system up-to date?
Try starting k3b from a terminal.  It will printout more detailed error messages.

Re: K3b crashes!

I am not able to start k3b from terminal

it's like this

[root@BOOGY ~]# k3b &
[1] 8549
[root@BOOGY ~]# Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified

kded: cannot connect to X server :0.0
kded: ERROR: KUniqueApplication: Registering failed!
kded: ERROR: Communication problem with kded, it probably crashed.
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified

kdeinit: Can't connect to the X Server.
kdeinit: Might not terminate at end of session.
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified

k3b: cannot connect to X server :0.0
ERROR: KUniqueApplication: Registering failed!
ERROR: Communication problem with k3b, it probably crashed.

[1]+ Exit 255 k3b

Another thing is that when I run "K3b setup", and close the window, this error shows up

"The Application KDE Control Module (kcmshell) crashed and caused the signal 6 (SIGABRT)

Re: K3b crashes!

Try running it as a user instead of as root.

Re: K3b crashes!

another information, my k3b takes roughly a minute to load into the main GUI, which is so unusual. I've used K3B before, and it only took few seconds to load.

I know something is wrong, but couldn't really find anything based on the logs. Your help is appreciated

Re: K3b crashes!

Try starting the dbus daemon as root:
/etc/rc.d/dbus start
then as user:
k3b

If that works, put dbus in the DAEMONS array of rc.conf

Re: K3b crashes!

you're a piece of magic!, looking at the logs, I should have known it mentioned something about DBUS, then again I don't know what services dbus is for.

No more crashing....but I still have tons of problems. care to lend your magic wand again?

Re: K3b crashes!

just curious

here's my daemon entry within rc.conf now

DAEMONS=(syslog-ng hotplug !pcmcia network dbus netfs crond scim samba cupsd)

I happened to came across one issue (can't remember) that putting these services has to be in order or else something funny might pop. Is that true?

Re: K3b crashes!

It looks like you've got everything right. If for example you were additionaly running hal and ivman, you would have to put  in as "dbus hal ivman" because the next daemon requires the preceding to be loaded before starting.

Re: K3b crashes!

DAEMONS=(syslog-ng hotplug !pcmcia network dbus netfs crond scim samba cupsd)

HAL is not there, so the rest are self-explicable...  wink
The current versions of K3B rely on hal to detect optical drives.
