pc speaker beep is active but pcspkr module is not loaded

Hi there,

Up to now I disabled my pc speaker with just blacklisting the pcspkr module. This worked great, but some weeks ago, the pc (and my notebook as well) started to beep again.

I have a file called /etc/modprobe.d/nobeep.conf:

# do not activate the pc speaker bell
blacklist pcspkr

And lsmod also tells me, that pcspkr is not loaded:

$ lsmod | grep pcspkr
$

Does anyone know, if the module name changed or so? How can I globally disable my pcspkr again?

Thanks for help!

I had the same problem with my laptop. Beep was on even though pcspkr was not loaded. I fixed it by muting Beep-channel in alsamixer.

You can also try those command :

setterm -blength 0
xset -b
