So I gave Gnome 3.4 a try..

And I'm really pleased with it sine I last used it during its beta days. Gnome tweak tool and extensions really made it usable. It is a shame they are needed, but I'm extremely glad they added the ability to use them.

Only thing I can really complain about is when I minimize applications they don't stay on the taskbar and and not being able to move the taskbar. Personally, if they are going to have it on top, they should just finish off copying OS X and add a dock at the bottom lol.
