Network Manager "loading" in XFCE

I installed my networkmanager along with nmapplet and everything's running fine. Trying to set it up so that I don't need to authenticate to change wireless networks and I followed option 3 from the wiki here

Option 3. Add yourself to the network group and create the following file:

/etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.pkla

[nm-applet]
Identity=unix-group:network
Action=org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.*
ResultAny=yes
ResultInactive=no
ResultActive=yes

All users in the network group will be able to add and remove networks without a password.

i haven't tried to connect to any other networks, but my home network is currently connected but the applet shows the connecting animation. Any ideas on how to fix this?
