[SOLVED]Unable to write to USB External Hard Drive Seagate SRD00F2 1TB

Hello,

I've been using arch for around 6 months, and have got an external harddrive to backup and transfer work.

For some reason my auto mount has stopped working, so I'm trying to do a backup and reinstall.

However, I've tried to manually mount an external drive but despite chmodding it for my user account (tom), it won't let me copy in the filemanager, or from the command-line, either as the user or root. I can view and execute files, but cannot write.

$ ls -l
total 4
drwxrwxrwx 1 tom storage 4096 Aug  6 02:10 usbdrive
$ cp -R /home/tom /media/usbdrive
cp: cannot create directory '/media/usbdrive/tom': Operation not permitted

Anyone got any ideas?

hdparm output:

$ sudo hdparm -I /dev/sdb1

/dev/sdb1:

Re: [SOLVED]Unable to write to USB External Hard Drive Seagate SRD00F2 1TB

Is it mounted read-only?

Re: [SOLVED]Unable to write to USB External Hard Drive Seagate SRD00F2 1TB

I'm using this command to mount:

sudo mount -o gid=storage,fmask=113,dmask=002 /dev/sdb1 /media/usbdrive

fdisk -l also produces:

$ sudo fdisk -l

Disk /dev/sdb: 1000.2 GB, 1000204885504 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121601 cylinders, total 1953525167 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x56237f13

   Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1            2048  1953521663   976759808    7  HPFS/NTFS/exFAT

Re: [SOLVED]Unable to write to USB External Hard Drive Seagate SRD00F2 1TB

What's the output of 'findmnt' after you've mounted that drive?

Edit: Wait wait wait. I know what's wrong. Read https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NTFS-3G how to write to NTFS filesystem.
