Hello,
I've been using arch for around 6 months, and have got an external harddrive to backup and transfer work.
For some reason my auto mount has stopped working, so I'm trying to do a backup and reinstall.
However, I've tried to manually mount an external drive but despite chmodding it for my user account (tom), it won't let me copy in the filemanager, or from the command-line, either as the user or root. I can view and execute files, but cannot write.
$ ls -l
total 4
drwxrwxrwx 1 tom storage 4096 Aug 6 02:10 usbdrive$ cp -R /home/tom /media/usbdrive
cp: cannot create directory '/media/usbdrive/tom': Operation not permittedAnyone got any ideas?

Is it mounted read-only?

I'm using this command to mount:
sudo mount -o gid=storage,fmask=113,dmask=002 /dev/sdb1 /media/usbdrivefdisk -l also produces:
$ sudo fdisk -l

What's the output of 'findmnt' after you've mounted that drive?
Edit: Wait wait wait. I know what's wrong. Read https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NTFS-3G how to write to NTFS filesystem.

Problem solved! Thank you! I knew I'd be missing something simple...
Cheers again.
