Recover a file from formatted drive?

I had a labserver which i re-installed but forgot to save a configuration file.

Is there any way to recover using any tool? I have done this in the past on FAT/NTFS using various tools but never on ext4, is it possible?

Re: Recover a file from formatted drive?

If it was just formatted, yeah, sure.

But if you installed (reinstalled?) something and the file was overwritten, fat chance.

Which "irreplaceable" configuration file did you lose?
