Constant disconnects

Anybody got any idea about the following constant disconnects I noticed in my kernel logs?
I started getting a lot of buffering and cutting-out when watching movies from my samba share, then seen this in the logs:

Re: Constant disconnects

Even though a quick google will provide the manufacturer, maybe you should include some information about your hardware.  Like at least mentioning that it is Cisco (I think).  Maybe lspci to indicate exactly what Linux sees it as...

It is great that you prove that it is deauthenticating for reason 7, but a bit more info would probably be wise.

Re: Constant disconnects

Sorry, didn't know what information might be useful. I had a good search before and noticed a lot of same issue, butwith different hardware so was thinking it might be to do with something else.

Re: Constant disconnects

Are there any other messages in the systemd journal possibly related to your issue?  Are you using wpa?

You may also want to follow these recent threads about similar issues:

Re: Constant disconnects

Check that you don't have both network and networkmanager running.  If network is still in your /etc/rc.conf file, remove it and reboot.

Re: Constant disconnects

@drrossum - yeah I'm connecting to WPA2 network. I'll have a read through those other threads later, thanks

@oldpond - no my system is entirely native systemd. If I recall I actually deleted rc.conf, though will check this all later after work. Before I get home, would there be anything else that you can think of to check?

Re: Constant disconnects

OK so I've had a look through the other threads and they don't seem to relate to my issue.

I have noticed that the disconnect/re-auth seems to happen precisely every ~97seconds

This error also appeared when using NetworkManager before - I don't know if they are related or entirely different, or if I need to make a separate thread.

Re: Constant disconnects

Do you get this problem when connecting to other networks?  All wifi networks?  Or just one single network?
You seem to be using a usb adapter.  Can you try a different adapter?

Re: Constant disconnects

It's a fixed desktop, I don't have access to other networks. Also I don't have any other adaptors.
I did notice that my laptop is doing the same thing (Vendor request failed, but for internal wifi card) - I only just installed Arch on it about a week ago.

Re: Constant disconnects

I'm having a similar issue:

[22242.692108] phy0 -> rt2x00usb_vendor_request: Error - Vendor Request 0x07 failed for offset 0x101c with error -110.

The device i'm using is:

Bus 001 Device 008: ID 148f:3572 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT3572 Wireless Adapter

I'm also using WPA2 and am using a pure systemd setup.

Any ideas on what's going on?

Internal network adaptor

12:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller (rev 01)

The only thing that fixes it on both desktop and laptop is

sudo netcfg -r name-of-profile

...although I have now given up on my desktop and just run a massive length of ethernet cable to the router (which isn't ideal but lets me get on with my work)

Re: Constant disconnects

I turned off power management and it seems to work:

sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off

When i say work, i mean it successfullly downloaded a file that previously failed (6 or so times).

I hope that helps.

Re: Constant disconnects

kaipee, I don't think we can help you based on the information you have so far.  What I suggest is to experiment with different setups in order to systematically exclude parts of the problem.
First, you have two computers with wifi problems on a single network.  The machines use different network adapters.  It's unlikely both adapters are broken or the drivers of both adapters are broken.  So you can exclude the adapters and their drivers.

Second, I'd try to address problems with your access point first.  Can you connect to other access points?  Or can other computers/setups connect successfully to your access point?

Third, you could have a problem with your setup, a problem in the configuration of both your machines in the same way.  But before you start narrowing down possibilities here, I'd first exclude the easier options.

Re: Constant disconnects

Not an issue with the router, which is why I'm working towards issues with Arch / kernel.

At least 7 other machines (non-Arch) connect without issue.
Housemates:
- 1 desktop
- 1 laptop
- 2 iPhones

My devices:
- both Android devices
- 1 Android tablet

Also when I ran Ubuntu and Win7 on my desktop it connected without issues.

Bearing in mind I cannot really play around with encryption types (shouldn't really need to as it worked perfectly on other OS, at least on Linux) what other information / steps are needed to try working this out?

kaipee wrote:

I have noticed that the disconnect/re-auth seems to happen precisely every ~97seconds

Does this happen on your laptop too?  I would try to figure out whether the problems on your two machines are exactly the same. From  your posts:

Oct 31 16:38:16 laptop-arch kernel: [ 7623.551908] ieee80211 phy0: brcms_c_prec_enq_head: No where to go, prec == 4

looks different from

Oct 18 22:17:16 zoostorm-arch kernel: [24845.724107] phy4 -> rt2x00usb_vendor_request: Error - Vendor Request 0x07 failed for offset 0x7010 with error -71.

You might be looking at two independent problems causing the same symptom, you disconnect.

Re: Constant disconnects

Apologies for not getting back to this (veru busy with work and studying degree)

I have noticed that it is not just a wireless issue on my laptop. I recently switched my laptop back to NetworkManager as I like to see a visual aide for networking to see if I'm connected or not when having problems. I had my laptop connected via LAN to play XBMC via HDMI TV and it also suffered disconnections issue, so I switched to my Xbox360 which didn't cut out once.

So where do I go from here?
What steps do I need to take to pin-point this problem?
What logs need reported?
What should my setup be?

I will perform any steps on the laptop first as I really cannot do without a working desktop for any period of time a the minute.

Ok so I have taken my laptop to work to catch up on some coursework. Same thing happened while connecting to work wifi.
I attempted connection, input incorrect password by accident, reconnected second time.

I have copied everything from everything.log that is from the initial connection attempt:
