When I booted my laptop this morning, I was greeted with a blank blue screen and the mouse cursor. Turns out yesterday's gdm upgrade was the culprit, apparently preventing X and/or Xfce from starting up properly.
After some fiddling, I managed to get back to tty1, which read (among other things):
gdm-binary: GLib-GIO-CRITICAL: g_dbus_method_invocation_return_gerror: assertion `error != NULL` failed gdm-binary: GLib-CRITICAL: g_error_free: assertion `error != NULL` failed
Downgrading gdm (3.6.1-1 -> 3.4.1-3) fixed the issue.
Is this something I should report on the bug tracker?

Ah, I hadn't seen that yet (and might not have recognized the signifance right away) - thanks!
I knew putting that off would come back to haunt me...
