I've had this problem a while, i'll admit it's a strange one...
Every once in a while when I'm browsing in Firefox or Chromium a frequently visited site like the Arch Linux Wiki/BBS or Wikipedia won't load any more.
The strange part is that when this happens (status: connecting to en.wikipedia.org...) in e.g. Firefox, I start Chromium and get the same problem.
It sometimes takes a while and then the page in both browsers load at the exactly same time.. But sometimes the connection just times out.
While this happens with Firefox or Chromium; when I open the same page in Opera, it always loads instantly.
So I have really no idea why this is happening. I've tried several things:
- Clean profiles of Firefox and Chromium (without any add-ons)
- Resetted al network hardware
- Changed my DNS server to OpenDNS
But nothing helped. There are no torrents or other network slowing activities going on and I got a fiber connection.
Some tips on how to go and solve/debug this problem is much appreciated, thanks!
P.s maybe also worth mentioning is that I only have this problem with Arch Linux on both desktop and laptop, when I boot into Windows there are no problems.

Can you load other sites when this problem happens? Ping the site? What does a traceroute say?
I believe I read somewhere that Opera has a “turbo” mode that will cache frequently visited sites; is it enabled?
I can ping the domain when it happens, haven't tried a traceroute yet, will try that.
Turbo isn't on, can't really be the cache since I don't use Opera anymore these days.
Is there anything useful in the logs?
So sorry for necrobumping this, but I solved this and thought the information might be useful for someone.
The problems seemed to be with my router (a Netgear WNDR3700 v1). I've flashed from the stock frimware to a recent user build of OpenWRT.
All my problems are gone.
