[SOLVED]MySQL missing daemon

I recently installed MySQL and followed the step on the wiki page. However, when i run "mysql_secure_installation", I get the error "ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)". I'm guessing it's trying to connect the daemon, but it isn't even listed in /etc/rc.d. I have tried re-installing and rebooting with no success. Any ideas?

Re: [SOLVED]MySQL missing daemon

You need to migrate to systemd as initscripts are no longer supported and rc.d scripts are gradually being dropped.

Yup. That explains why a lot of things have been "funny". Thanks.

Re: [SOLVED]MySQL missing daemon

MariaBD still has initscripts support if you're needing a mysql daemon to tide you over until you have time to switch over. But yeah, you're probably gonna experience a lot of problems the longer you put off switching.

Re: [SOLVED]MySQL missing daemon

I went ahead and made the switch. This is kinda cool actually. Just not sure if I care for the verbosity of systemctl. I'll have to play around with it. Thanks guys.

Re: [SOLVED]MySQL missing daemon

Too noisy, or not noisy enough?

You can increase the boot-time verbosity by removing "quiet" from your boot loader (Makes "Starting xyz.... [OK]" messages show up).

If it's too noisy, you probably have a problem somewhere, and might want to consider doing a forum search for any messages it's giving you.

Re: [SOLVED]MySQL missing daemon

The "quiet" switch thing is what I'm looking for. Just haven't got around to find what I'm looking for. Nice system specs BTW.
