I have the same issue after todays pacman -syu. kill(12741, SIGABRT)
For me, apart from kde 4.10 packages, only xcb, perl, kerberos, openssl, curl, flashplugin, firefox, gimp, gzip, chromium, soprano, and vim got upgraded.

Same problem here (vmware workstation 9.0.1, x86_64).
Solution: downgrade curl package from curl-7.29.0-1 to curl-7.28.1-1 (works for me).

The same thing. Downgrade of curl has helped to me too. Thanks, tmircea.

Here's the Gentoo bug report, in case it's useful.
Thanks

Looking for help!
VMware Workstation version=10.0.1 build=build-1379776
won't start on

I have installed the patch found here:

I have done everything found here:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VMware
3.13 kernels - patch for Netfilter-enabled systems (optional)
Systems that have enabled the network packet filtering framework (Netfilter or CONFIG_NETFILTER) on 3.13 kernels (found in: Networking Support → Networking Options) will fail to build the vmnet module.
This isn't included in the Arch stock kernel, but for custom kernels a patch can be found here:
$ curl http://pastie.org/pastes/8672356/download -o /tmp/vmware-netfilter.patch
$ cd /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source
# tar -xvf vmnet.tar
# patch -p0 -i /tmp/vmware-netfilter.patch
# tar -cf vmnet.tar vmnet-only
# rm -r vmnet-only
# vmware-modconfig --console --install-all
Issues with Linux 3.13
You need to patch some file if you wan't compile again
$ git clone https://github.com/bawaaaaah/vmware_patch.git
$ cd vmware_patch
vmnet:
$ tar -xvf /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source/vmnet.tar
$ patch -p1 < vmnet-patch-kernel-3.13
$ tar -uf vmnet.tar vmnet-only
# cp vmnet.tar /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source/
vmblock:
$ tar -xf /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source/vmblock.tar
$ patch -p1 < vmblock-patch-kernel-3.13
$ tar -uf vmblock.tar vmblock-only
# cp vmblock.tar /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source/

So I upgraded my system (pacman -Syu), and also uninstalled some orphaned packages.
Then spent several hours trying to figure out why my VMWare workstation 10.0.1 fails to load.
Finally I found the solution.
I looked in the old AUR package for vmware-workstation 9.0.2, and re-installed the dependencies noted there:
yaourt -S at-spi2-core curl desktop-file-utils fuse gtkmm hicolor-icon-theme lib32-glibc libglade libpng12 librsvg libsm openssl098 startup-notification
Now it works!
good luck.

Thank you operandx, this helped me. Specifically applying both the vmnet and vmblock patches along with reinstalling all the above mentioned packages (minus the openssl098 - I couldn't find a package like that, just openssl) ended up getting my VMware workstation to launch successfully again.
Thanks!

I too got all working with a similar upgrade and another full upgrade after about a week. I have added linux-lts (as I should have long ago) for an alternate path to success in the future during upgrades.
Thanks.
