[Solved] Root user not usable

Hello.

I don't know why, but I am not able to use sudo anymore. I cannot login to root too. The password is correct but if I try with su or to login from tty it says the the login is incorrect.

What can I do?

;(

Solution

I solved following this guide.

Re: [Solved] Root user not usable

hi,

have you mess up your sudo conf file (ie /etc/sudoers) or have you just forgot your root password ?

can you login in root with

 sudo su

if you can, set a new root password with

 passwd

If you can't login in root, you will have to boot with a liveusb distro, and clean the 3 following conf files

/etc/passwd
/etc/group
/etc/sudoers

i can try to explain how !

Re: [Solved] Root user not usable

What I have done is to create a new grup and add my user to that goup. That's all.

I have a trouble with UEFI and I cannot start any CS/USB at boot time. I cannot login as root too.

I'm very very very very very frustrated by this situation. I cannot work and I'm wasting time for no reason.

What commands did you use to do that? I fail to see how creating a group and adding a user to it would prevent the root user logging in.

What sort of problem? What have you tried to fix it? Can you switch to BIOS mode and boot a LiveCD that way?

Re: [Solved] Root user not usable

I followed this guide, linked in the wiki.

The UEFI problem is this one.

Re: [Solved] Root user not usable

That thread suggests that you couldn't even install Arch, yet you've apparently managed to install and break it between then and now. So how did you get past the problem last time? Can you do it again to boot a LIveCD?
