Creating a wlan network for gaming

I want to use my wireless card in my laptop to create a wlan network over which I can play games with my friends.
How can I do this?

The easiest way is to get a wireless router. It does not need an Internet connection, and can handle the allocation of IP addresses.

Otherwise look at ad-hoc networking

Sorry, if it feels too obvious but I am unable to get how to modify the server script in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ad-hoc_networking

for my intel wireless driver

 09:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1030 [Rainbow Peak] (rev 34)

and networkmanager crashed when I tried the procedure and clicked connect to a hidden network.

I don't know what that means. Run the nm-applet from a console so that you can capture any diagnostic output.
