Set an external spam filter that uses imap?

I have two servers on different sites. The server handling the imap/smtp is not powerful enough to handle the spam filtering as well. I would like to be able to use another server that accesses all the accounts via imap, checks if the new messages in INBOX are spam, and place them in the imap spam folder.

Has anyone heard of something like this, or where I can find more info on this possibility?

I use a program called imapfilter to sort mail over IMAP.  You are able to do that sorting based on the output from piped programs, including spam filters.

Example configuration along those lines: https://github.com/lefcha/imapfilter/bl … nd.lua#L23
