Ad-hoc network created but not visible for other devices

Hello to all.

I'm having some problems creating an ad-hoc network, everything seems to work nicely but the network just isn't visible to any other devices, I was able to create one a few months ago in arch and I am able to create it in other distros so the hardware should be ok.

I'm using:

# iwconfig wlan0 mode ad-hoc essid test key 123123123
# ifconfig wlan0 192.168.2.1 up

after this I can see this in iwconfig

wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:"test"
          Mode:Ad-Hoc Frequency:2.412 GHz Cell: AE:E4:AF:BA:AE:81
          Tx-Power=20 dBm
          Retry long limit:7 RTS thr=2347 B Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:0123-1231-23
          Power Management:on

if I do a "iwlist scan", it shows the network, it's interesting that it says "Signal level=0 dBm", when it's working usually shows "Signal level=-56 dBm  ", so this is likely a good clue about what the problem is yet I can't figure out what  to I do about it.

        Cell 04 - Address: AE:E4:AF:BA:AE:81
                    Channel:1
                    Frequency:2.412 GHz (Channel 1)
                    Quality=70/70  Signal level=0 dBm
                    Encryption key:on
                    ESSID:"test"

This is shown in my dmesg:

Re: Ad-hoc network created but not visible for other devices

Is it strictly necessary to have ad-hoc connection ?
Otherwise you may have a look at an Access Point creation.

do it good first, it will be faster than do it twice the saint wink

Re: Ad-hoc network created but not visible for other devices

situation demand to have Ad-hoc over access point..
