I have arch running in virtualbox.
Using mplayer with vo=x11 it plays the video smoothly. Using VLC with the output also set to X11 just gives me stuttering sound with most of the video being black.

alsa debug: prepending 23735 zeroesanyone know with what seems like the same settings, VLC doesn't work but mplayer does? they both seem to be using libavcodec as well.
edit: it may be only with wmv files
