netctl + wpa_passphrase = no interwebs

Dear all, my plight is as follows: to configure my univ wireless network, I used netctl plus the wireless-wpa-configsection, and everything went smoothly. With one caveat: I had to write down my password, in the clear. Now, the problem is that that password (and user) are shared in a couple of other univ systems (their policy, not mine), which makes it somewhat risky to have the password written down in plain text -- even if the config file is readable only by root. So I used wpa_passphrase to obfuscate it, but then, like the subject says, no interwebs. Trying to bring up the network fails with: "deauthenticating from <MAC address> by local choice (reason=3)"

I thought it was quote problem in the psk= line, but it is not. So I am at a loss. Ideas anyone?

I thought I did, but as I re-read them now, after a good night of sleep, I realise I might not have followed them exactly. I will give it another try and post my results.
