Where did Powerpc go?

Did I miss the announcement? I can't seem to find Powerpc support anywhere. The archlinuxppc.org site is down, not notice given. Is there anyway to get the install disk for ppc still? Anyone have a torrent?

A couple months ago there was a video on youtube about someone that was putting effort on bringing back ArchPPC, unfortunatelly it was deleted.
Hope to see news soon.

Hmm.. My friend has a PowerPC laptop, it used to have Mac on it - he changed it to Debian. I introduced him to Arch a while back; it would be nice if there were some updated builds and maybe a ppc mirror somewhere...

Does anyone know why Arch doesn't officially support other architectures, like Debian? Is there any particular reason, or is it merely a matter of optimizing the usefulness/headache ratio?

If one were to get the initial setup done, could a tool such as pacbuilder be used to maintain the system? What issues might arise from that?

Packager/Developer resources, both time and availability of suitable hardware mainly.

Running Debian on a PPC Mac was by no means unproblematic when I tried it, although my Mac is admittedly an especially awkward one (nvidia graphics). I think even for a large distro like Debian, it seemed difficult to properly support it. My Mac never worked well with Debian - no brightness control, inability to sleep or hibernate (due to lack of brightness control largely), lots of things not quite working (e.g. forget output to VGA) etc.

I'm not endorsing it, but PPC Macs are essentially obsolete. The software just disappeared and they became much more difficult to maintain securely and sustainably. Note that I'm not saying it cannot be done. I'm just saying, it is difficult and there is not, I think, all that much interest in doing it.

If we can not ever figure out how to get ARM officially into the Arch realm, I doubt PPC is even a consideration!

But, I believe that Gentoo supports PPC. I could be wrong....

I'm pretty sure they do support it, yes. But I wonder if that support is better than Debian's. As far as I could tell, the problems on my machine are not a function of Debian's packaging but rather of deficiencies in the upstream software - drivers, kernel, and all the way up.

They do yes. i been tryin to put linux on an old imac allinone from the 90s
debian didnt work and dun have enough space to compile with gentoo on a 4gb HDD

seeing this project reborn would be nice id be willing to help if possible. i have time atm
