hi! i've been having all these random problems with samba (i think). When i run makepkg i get errors like these
==> tar --use-compress-program=gzip -xf fcgi-2.4.0.tar.gz
tar: fcgi-2.4.0/fcgi_config.h: Cannot open: File exists
tar: fcgi-2.4.0/depcomp: Cannot open: File exists
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
==> ERROR: Failed to extract fcgi-2.4.0.tar.gz
before when i used nfs it would just overwrite whatever exsisted without any problems. if i try to do rm -rf fcgi* i get the following error
rm: cannot remove `fcgi-2.4.0/depcomp': Text file busy
rm: cannot remove `fcgi-2.4.0/fcgi_config.h': Text file busy
there is nothing running that could be using either of those files, but i could be wrong. it also happens with other things i try to build using makepkg. how do i fix these errors?

check on the samba server...what mask are the files created with?
samba does some funky mask mapping sometimes. Could be worth looking into.
You can also check and see which files samba is locking, and who has a lock on it. I don't remember the command offhand though.

i didn't set a create mask in the smb.conf, because from what i read that is for windows clients writing to a samba share... also, i think the command would be smbstatus -L and here is what that tells me,

5516 is smbd, also i know the time is messed up been trying to fix that too...

what does your mount command look like?

hmmm.. seems ok to me. I mean...you could use credentials to increase security a bit..so you dont have a password just laying around in your fstab..
but other than that...seems ok.

should i try setting a create mask?

are you getting any errors on your samba server?
check your logs...look for something squirrely..
I dont know what the problem is at this point... you could try a mask...and see if it fixes it. Seems like a kludge to me..but maybe you need it.

all of the errors in the logs are from not being able to connect to cups, which i don't care about. also i get permission denied errors from svn if i try to checkout a repo because its not able to move the .svn dirs and stuff. if i try deleting what svn does checkout i get permission denied. i gave nfs a try for a couple of minutes but kdesktop wouldn't work then. i can post my smb.conf if you wanna see it, but testparm doesn't give me any errors so i don't know if you'll find anything...

i suppose it could be worth a shot...
