I still have multiple issues with my new Laptop, the Lenovo Ideapad Y500, but one of the smaller issues is a bit of a mystery.
In short, it happens from time to time, that the wireless interface simply isn't present after boot. No hibernation or suspend involved. The issues is solved by a reboot and that is really all I know. It seems to happen most often when the laptop have had a chance to cool off, i.e., it haven't been turned on for a while.
I haven't got a clue how to diagnose this issue, so that will be my first question, and of course the second one will be if anyone have experienced anything similar and might be able to offer an explanation, if not a solution.
Thanks.
NB:
The device in question:
03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 2230 (rev c4)
I am a philosopher, of sorts, not a troll or an imbecile.
My apologies that this is not always obvious, despite my best efforts.

I know people who have had real problems with the iwlwifi module, and this card in particular. I too have this card, though at the moment, I am using a different one. For me it worked great though. I did notice that it was having a whole crap load of Tx Excessive Retries in the iwconfig output, but it didn't seem to affect the functioanlity of the card.
There have been some changes to the iwlwifi module and its dependencies of late. So you might want to try to git sources for the module, or even just try the linux-git package from the AUR (which follows Linus' git tree). Otherwise, you can try out the [testing] kernel, 3.11-1, to see if the changes make an impact for you there.
Edit: I don't know that this will have any bearing on the the detection of the wireless card on boot… for that it seems like it might be HW related, like an improperly seated card. I probably should have actually read your first post in full before responding…
