Can't record with microphone jack [SOLVED]

My system is pretty darn good, however, it won't record any audio. I can't believe I can't figure this out... Something weird must be goin' on... I think I have all drivers/dependencies installed; a perfect? initial Arch install; working audio software like, audacity, flrec, even gnome sound; and alsa-utils, alsa-firmware, alsa-plugins, alsa-lib.
I can run audio through the mic input and hear it coming out of the speakers, but if I try to record it, I'll get an audio file in my hard drive that I either can't hear when I open, or get a crackly-screeching sound from. I'v toggled all the options in audacity, nothing works. I know this sounds like a total noob question, but it may just be one of those tough one's that, oddly, nobody will be able to figure out...
Nevertheless, any pieces for my mystery audio puzzle?
