Slow download speed in terminal/console

Hello forum,

I've got a download speed issue on my laptop.
My network controller is Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235, driver is iwlwifi and kernel version is 3.12.9-2-ARCH.

When I'm browsing websites my download speed is about 360K/s, which is normal for DSL4000.
However, as soon as I try to download something via a terminal command (e.g. pacman, wget, ...) it drops to ~20K/s and sometime even 0K/s.

Neither disabling power saving nor disabling 11n nor disabling IPv6 nor disabling hardware encryption seems to work for me.

I hope you can help me, because I'm out of ideas.

Thanks in advance.

PS.: Please apologize my English, I'm not a native speaker. wink

Re: Slow download speed in terminal/console

Are you using NetworkManager?
And is your ping normal or high?
use

ping -c 5 google.com

for example
