Whenever I plug in a second monitor into my video card and send it output with Xrandr, after a few seconds my system freezes completely. I can't access another TTY, and it stays frozen after the other monitor is unplugged. I'm using the latest xf86-video-ati with an ATI HD4870. Thanks.

if crazy shit happens, check the logs and dmesg. Post them here. Use code tags or pastebin if the logs are huge.

Sorry, I know is that the issue has something to do with KMS. I had the issue when installing, and it wouldn't even start without KMS disabled. This is not just an X problem, it still freezes when X isn't started. Here are the xorg logs:

This seems relevant: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60523
Try adding radeon.dpm=0 to your kernel parameters.

I was having the same problem. The only solution I found was downgrading kernel to 3.10.
Funny thing is I've no problem running Manjaro on 3.14.
