Just upgraded the machine and now I get a time-out on mounting local disks (not encrypted, not raided, just normal hard drive partitions) when I try to boot.
I'm thrown into emegency shell, I can't remote-log-into the device and the printouts are meager in information to say the least.
All I know is that passwd and group changed. Could they cause drives not to mount properly?
Root seems to mount, it is /boot and /var/cache that do not mount.
When I'm in the emergency shell, I can mount them easily.
What is going on? What could cause this timeout during boot?

Chroot in and look through your logs. Without more concrete information, it is difficult to say what your issue might be caused by.
Moving to NC...

Also the exact message about the time-out would be useful.

These are the packages I upgraded. I got the list from my other machine, but i usually update them at the same time so they should be the same.

Logs from another machine are not really helpful at all: presumably, the other machine is still booting...
See https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57855
Chroot in and start diagnosing the affected machine, and then post meaningful errors/logs here.
Offline
Sorry I was unclear. The log is from the failing machine.
I downgraded filesystem, systemd and systemd-vcompat and now the machine boots. Appears there is something wrong with the new packages.

Unless the journal log was somehow corrupted, it looks like all the dashes in your fstab were replaced by "\x2d" and all the slashes by dashes.
Check your fstab.

Seems unlikely, how would that be affected by upgrade/downgrade of filesystem, systemd and systemd-vcompat? Seems to me like something changed in those programs (because I did not change fstab).
I use UTF8 and swedish locale, maybe that's not something that was tested before systemd was released in a new version. Smells like encoding-problems to me.

I guess it must be a bug in filesystem then that somehow hasn't affected anyone else but you. If you open a bug report with this much information I'm sure you'll get a very pleasant response from falconindy.
</end sarcasm>
If you want to solve the problem you're going to have to try to provide more information and less blame. Those packages are working just fine for me.

No need to get unpleasant. I can solve this on my own. Thanks for making me feel welcome.

It's nothing to do with making you feel welcome or not; seeking support here is a two way street https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fo … way_Street
Trilby wasn't being unpleasant, just pointing out the obvious.

Ok. Now then so am I. Have a look at the following bug report on Systemd:
https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/40706?s … &closedto=
I know I should have provided logs from the start. Also I was unclear in my first followup with the logs.
That being said, Trilby's sarcasm was unnecessary. If I was a real newbie I probably wouldn't have dared look at the bugreports on systemd to see if anyone else had my problem after his comment.
Anyway, honestly, I thank you for listening. I've worked out my problems on my own. I'll await the new version of systemd that is in testing to see if that solves my problem.
Have a nice day!

If the sarcasm came off poorly, I appologize. I often try to make some points indirectly as it is often clearer that way. The direct way would have been simple to highlight that you were not being forthcoming with the information we'd need to help. We can only work with what we are given.
If you do have this sorted, I'm glad it worked out in the end.
