I've got a kate sessions applet under systemtray settings. Don't know if that's what you're looking for or even if it would be helpful to you.

Anyone else have this issue ?

I think i solved some of my problems with black screen from hell.  I uninstalled kscreen and qt5-graphicaleffects and removed all configs related to plasma 5 from  /home/.config  /home/.local/share and reboot my computer.  And i keep computer running over night.  To my surprise screensaver was there this morning instead of a black screen and i logged in to a complete new plasma experience. Everything is much faster and works incredible much better now.  I can download icons/themes thrue system-settings, 4 open webpages are now visible on whole panel with name instead of 4 firefox icons in left panel corner( i dont know wich behavior is correct here). Panel icons for network and so on looks much better. I still have lots of error in dmesg and xsession-errors and i dont know what those mean. But im quite happy with the new behavior of plasma.

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Just wanted to share this, in case this may work for others as well: on my laptop with an Intel HD 4000 card I noticed that the "plasmashell" process was consuming a fair bit of CPU time. It wasn't a complete hog, which makes googling and researching tricky, since you get overwhelmed with hits on complete CPU eating by plasmashell, which is a different problem.

In my case, I noticed that after moving windows or using the "Ctrl-F9" animation, certain mouse actions, etc., plasmashell spiked for a couple of seconds and then went back to using 1-2% of a core. This caused the CPU fan to kick in often and made for a noisy experience.

The fix in my case was to switch the compositor to use the "OpenGL 3.1" rendering backend and set the OpenGL interface to "EGL". After doing that, you'll have to log out and back in, since your session is messed up, but it's been a quiet, smooth ride ever since. Of course, mileage will vary based on your graphics card.

Any idea what the changes for plasma-workspace-5.3.0-4 are? The package doesn't seem to have a changelog (pacman -Qc)

One more issue is that when I open krunner with Alt+F2 and I repress Alt+F2 to close it (if I opened it accidentally for example), sometimes it closes but most times it doesn't. In KDE 4 this combination always opens AND closes krunner. So, as an alternative I use Esc or I click the X button to close it.

Yeah, I had to get used to this too. Sometimes I just hit Winkey+Space (my Krunner shortcut) out of habit to do something and then just repeating it would close. It was a nice reflexive thing to do, but now I just use escape. I guess we could put in a feature request?

As I remember it has worked until now and on Plasma 5.3 krunner autostart has disappeared. So it is rather a bug then a new feature.

Krunner autostart bug is confirmed, so I hope 5.3.1 will fix it.

I'm missing "Mouse" in "Input Devices" after updating to 5.3.1. Is this a bug or has it been moved somewhere else?

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

I've got a question abut Kdevelop; related to plasma 5:

I want to use the "GDB plugin and 'Attach to process' functionality". As mentioned in https://www.archlinux.org/packages/extr … /kdevelop/ the kdebase-workspace package is required as optional dependency to get this feature. But kdebase-workspace is in conflict with my installed Plasma 5 packages, which i do not want to uninstall.

Is there a way to get that functionality in kdevelp (it always says that the debugging launch configuration is incorrect, which is IMO caused by the gdb plugin not being installed/loaded) without installing kdebase-workspace?

Appreciate any hint on this!

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Sorry if this has been covered, I could not find any posts about it. When the mouse hovers over the empty Plasma desktop, the mouse cursor theme is different from the rest of the GUI. Using Kicker, opening programs, even right-clicking on the desktop all give me the Breeze mouse cursor, which I've set in System Configuration. Do I need to set some X mouse cursor config in order to also have the Breeze cursor on the desktop? Currently I don't have any .Xresources or similar files in ~.

As a quick and dirty hack you could extract the libraries from kdebase-workspace to a different prefix (libprocessui and libprocesscore) and launch kdevelop with LD_LIBRARY_PATH=your-new-path. A better solution would be to use kdevelop-git, it should be quite stable now.

So which repo is this in? The package listing still says 5.3.1-1 and it's not in testing/kde-unstable either.

Happens here too, I get the old Xorg default cursor on the desktop, but the Breeze one over application windows.

Tried the git version but it breaks immediately when opening my project. Will be using QtCreator for debugging until the KF5 version of kdevelop is released.
