Re: KF 5 & Plasma

I have some annoying issues:

* Instant Messaging (ktelepathy) - Under Configure/Online Accounts/Google Account/Google Hangouts/Configure do nothing (solve with kopete).
* Klipper - Action on regular expression never triggered
* Power saving - Button events handling do nothing
* Shutting down - Sometimes (random) clicking on "Shutdown" nothing happens and kded5 is at 100% of CPU (sudo systemctl poweroff solve the problem)

Have anyone the same problems or can help me?

they seems the same found on this thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=193344 but is very old and that bugs should be resolved.

Thanks!

I've seen the solution as well. The thing is that we should report this as soon as posible, so that the developers can look for a fix / integrate the solutions in time for the release.
I haven't found any ticket for those problems (I'm also affected by both). If I they are already raported I'll post the links to them.

I couldn't find the ksplash 4:3 issue reported so I did it : https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=355868.
I did not experiment wayland yet, so I'll leave it to others to report it smile

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

After updating to Xorg 1.18 it seems the Touchpad KCM cannot recognise the drivers anymore.
"Synaptics backend not found"

Can anyone confirm this? This is both using libinput and synaptics Xorg drivers.

I resolved an icon related issue by deleting /var/tmp/kdecache* (of course from tty).

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Hi All,

I used to use kmix until plasma-pa has replaced it. With kmix I used flat-volumes=no option to have the same volume in system and in applications as well. I need the same feature for plasma-pa as well.

example: If I decrease the volume in Clementine then it should descrease the system volume. If I open VLC it should have the same decreased volume. Basically there is no separate volume, but only one volume.

How can I setup it with using plasma-pa? Even if I modify the etc/pulse/daemon.conf file (with flat-volumes=no or yes) it does not work how I need it.

I read the Arch wiki, but I could not solve it.

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

flat-volumes = yes is what makes applications decrease system volumes to the same level, there is however, no mechanism in place to prevent applications from raising that limit again. Or, as you make that distinction, does plasma-pa unconditionally adjust application volumes as well when you change the master (regardless of flat-volumes value)?

Either way plasma-pa hasn't replaced kmix, you can still use kmix if it suites your workflow better (you can disable plasma-pa in the systemtray's settings if you don't want to out right remove the plasma-pa package)

An alternative option would be setting module-stream-restore restore_volume=false in your default.pa to make sure that every stream will always start with the same base volume.

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

I have an issue with kmail 15.11.90-1 (KF 5 version) from [kde-unstable].

I am not able to read PGP/inline signed mails any more.
When I open such a mail, kmail only displays a blank mail and cpu usage is very high.

I already reported that bug here Bug Report
but nobody has responded yet.

Can anybody recheck in order to be sure this is an issue on kmail's side and not on my side?

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

I've installed plasma5 and it has ton of bugs. Power manager is broken. Demon is running but settings have not affect. Screen dims after 10mins no matter what preference I choose in settings. Session is being suspend with the same reason.Screen brightness is randomly changes from time to time.    When I just boot up my laptop  everything is fine. Time passes and there could be artifacts on windows switching animation, like triangles. Kwin also always hangs after start (randomly from 0second after start to 3 hours. I just get the following journalctl (dmesg and xorg are fine)

qxcbconnection xcb error: 3 Badwindows

Seems like KWIN_EXPLICIT_SYNC=0 removes this message. But it still freezes in the end of the day.  Even restarting sddm doesn't help. It's just dead. The last KWin words are:

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Very likely to be drivers, installing the 4.3 kernel should help you out here (there's also a potential crasher in glibc but it shouldn't have this much of an effect on KDE, more on gnome/gtk apps, if you notice crashes in GTK it might help to recompile glibc without --enable-lock-elision

Also note that some of the configurations not sticking weirdness might stem from older config files or similar, I had similar issues at the start but they subsequently fixed themselves after a few reboots (sounds weird I know)

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

I also just switched my main laptop to Plasma 5.5 - there were some settings/configs that needed to be changed and set for the way I like things - however the arch wiki on KDE and the upgrade to plasma worked well for me - the key thing that I needed was that to remove kdebase-workspace it needed pacman -Rc but then things really just needed going through the various settings options to tweak the desktop to the way I wanted it.  I had flickering on the screen at various times but after a google found there was a possible solution so I went into settings -> display and monitor -> compositor and changed the rendering backend to OpenGL 3.1 - and the flickering seems to have stopped. I don't know if this is worth trying for the previous post with rendering issues? Other than that Plasma 5.5 so far looks good on my first system to execute the upgrade. One slightly frustrating feature is that when selecting the logout option the icons for choosing between logout/reboot/shutdown are tiny - I tried to find a config to change that but no luck so far.

Edit: Later I found I also needed to switch vsync off in system settings -> display and monitor -> compositor
Under tearing prevention I changed it from automatic to never.

Well errors are gone with 4.3 kernel , but Kwin still freezes... Seems like I've been having another root cause...
It's a dumb question but where'are kde's logs? Sure I can kill plasma and start it with redirecting to file, but what about Kwin daemon?

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

In the "old" kde4 it was easily possible to select the kdm config so that a particular user on the system was highlighted in the kdm  login greeter as the default user to log in if he/she is the main user of the computer.  In sddm I couldn't find any equivalent in the sddm.conf that would do the same - it is possible to have the last use who logged out presented for the next login but not the same preferred user each time. Does anyone know of a way to achieve this?

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

If anyone else finds a sudden gaudy and unappealing gradient on their otherwise wonderful flat Breeze theming in the new 5.5 update, go to decorations -> options on Breeze and uncheck Draw window background gradient to get glorious flat Breeze back.

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

I upgraded a working kde4 system to plasma - on a second machine (Intel graphics desktop with Ivybridge processor I3 with integrated graphics) - (the first machine was a Lenovo laptop and was fine after a few config tweaks). Although this second machine initially logged in OK - when I logged out and back in the system gave the sddm greeter but then the login hung with the desktop background but no mouse cursor and no taskbar - so I seem to be unable to do anything at all.

I have ssh'ed in from another machine and tried removing all the plasma* files from .config, and also tried cleaning the .cache, as well as removing the Trolltech.conf file and rebuilding - but nothing I do has so far been able to get me logged back in. Any suggestions?

I seem to be in a real hole here.....any help with what to remove and start again would be very much appreciated.

Edit: I don't know if my problem is related to this issue but http://news.softpedia.com/news/critical … 8621.shtml seems to be a serious problem and I don't know if there is a solution or workaround.  I have tried adding a switch section to my 90-libinput.conf file to change the intel graphics back to UXA - I did get a brief login but it has crashed again.

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

I've just upgraded to Plasma 5.5 and finally the Dropbox icon is shown in the systray. However, behind the Dropbox icon I can see (barely) the KDE logo. Anyone else with this kind of problem?

Same issue here, icon appeared but looks awful (mixed up with firefox icon or partially black). I'm actually using kfilebox, so two icons showed up: Dropbox and kfilebox. I hid the Dropbox tray icon and still use the kfilebox one which looks better.

If anyone else finds a sudden gaudy and unappealing gradient on their otherwise wonderful flat Breeze theming in the new 5.5 update, go to decorations -> options on Breeze and uncheck Draw window background gradient to get glorious flat Breeze back.

Thanks for pointing out the option for it! I actually really like that gradient though. But it's to know where the options are.

A similar case happened to me the very first time I logged in after upgrade (from Kde 4 to Plasma 5.4). I had been able to unlock the system by switching to another VT (Ctrl+Alt+F2) and the back to desktop (Ctrl+Alt+F1), then it never happened again. You can give it a try since it's very simple but I really don't know if it will be of any help in your case
