Anybody has a random freezes? I don't see anything in logs when this happens. Yakuake and krunner still works, sometimes killing plasmashell and launch again make it works, others no. This happens more since qt5-base 5.6.0-7 update.
Which driver? I was having something similar on nouveau recently (pre -7 update), but the nvidia blob is fine

This little gem applies neatly to plasma-workspace 5.6.4. Just apply and rebuild your plasma-workspace. Your salvation is near!
I must add that the patch added a new bug in Plasmashell on my machine : when I put a window in fullscreen mode, the bottom of the window gets cropped and goes behind the Plasma panel.
Reverting to the regular plasma-workspace package fixed it.
Given the developer's interest in making this patch and multi monitor work, I think you should report this. I cannot reproduce it here.
Okay, but I don't know where to report the bug when it's related to a patch. Is there a section on bugs.kde.org ?

I'm observing the same behaviour. Additionally I cannot login after some time (usually 5-10 minutes). After downgrading systemd to 229-3 the problem disappeared. I have no idea how to track the reason for the problem, there was nothing critical loged in the journal.

New day, new bug : Kmail does not use my default smtp server anymore.
Edit : nevermind, figured it out.

The last few days I am having strange freezes on the desktop, but only on the desktop. I mean, the taskbar is not responding (I cannot click on applications to activate them, or on icons, eg. network manager) and the desktop is not responding either (eg. does not respond to right click or anything). But the applications still work and I can switch to them with Alt+Tab. This happens some random time after I have turned on the computer.
I am almost certain that the only solution is to reboot. Even if I kill X (Ctrl+Alt+Backspace) and log back in, it does not work correctly, there are errors about timeout, etc.
I have even re-installed plasma, the problem continues.
Anyone else experienced something similar?

I know this problem as well. Do you are using systemd.automount? If so, try systemd 230-4 (testing).

Might be... I have an NFS automount, and I was watching the logs (journalctl -f) one time it happened; the last thing that was logged was an unmounting of this folder. From then on, I could not access (remount) the folder...
I just installed systemd from testing and I will report back if it happens again.

Its probably baloo, I've noticed the file extractor has been eating CPU cycles up big time similar to how it was performing in the 5.3 era. Might be a regression due to systemd changes making it rescan new devices over and over or something.

Yes, this behaviour was frequent to me when using DRI3 on radeon drivers, sometime before it was made the default option. Now it seems very stable tough.
Sometimes killing and restarting plasmashell would work, but not always. You can kill it by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Esc, and clicking on the desktop background. Restart it by opening KRunner (Alt+Space) and running the plasmashell command.

I'm having the same problem. Once in a while some application crashes for no reason. it's all the same if I use the proprietary driver nvidia or nouveau.

Nevermind, something fixed it after another system update and reboot.

Exactly the same problem here.
Plasmashell crashes everytime.
With alt+f2 I was able to open krunner and start konsole.

Interesting. The same happened on my Netbook (32bit). On my big PC (64bit), everything is okay, though I don't know if it is a 32/64bit thing or not.

What did you downgrade, and how, if I may ask? Did you find a specific package that gave problems and downgraded only that, or did you downgrade everything? If the latter, did downgrading just kdebase pull the downgrades for the rest?
Thanks.

I downgraded to specific date (specifically to the state at 2016-06-11, that was my last upgrade before today), because I first tried to downgrade just plasma, but it did not solve the issue. Then I tried to downgrade kdebase, but after that the boot hung up, and journalctl showed that there is a conflicting with Qt. So I decided to do the specific-date downgrade, as I needed my computer back fast. I did not understand why downgrading did not pull any dependencies.

I did not understand why downgrading did not pull any dependencies....

Thanks!

Has anyone the same issue that kmix freezes the input when clicking on the taskbar and try to use the popup to change the volume?
Downgrading the pkg to the version before 16.04.1 solves the issue for me, building the git version didn't helped.
Also does some use a DP monitor? Cause Kscreen sometimes doesn't restore the screen setting of my second monitor (both are connected with DP).

What did you downgrade, and how, if I may ask? Did you find a specific package that gave problems and downgraded only that, or did you downgrade everything? If the latter, did downgrading just kdebase pull the downgrades for the rest?

I'm having the same issue on my old 32-bit laptop, and I figured that it was not Plasma but the latest QT5 that's causing the problems. I'm using snapper, so I rolled back to before the upgrade and tried "pacman -Suy --ignoregroup plasma", which didn't help. But
pacman -Suy --ignoregroup qt5
did the trick, with plasma working again.

Yes, maybe this issue is only on 32bit systems. I also have this issue and I also have a 32bit system.
I've made a bugreport.
I have an other issue that can't be confirmed by the developer... maybe it is also a 32bit-only issue.
Kaddressbook will crash after creating/importing a new contact with a birthday or anniversary. After this crash, kaddressbook will crash every next time it is executed and korganizer will crash every time an event is created.
Here is the bugreport on bugs.kde.org.
Can someone with a 32bit system test and confirm or deny that creating a new contact with a birthday on kaddressbook will crash kaddressbook?
If you want to test, use a newly created test account on KDE for this, because this crash will corrupt your akonadi database.
