Uni wifi needs a proxy to work, can't find out how to set it up

Their manual (only for ubuntu) says that the proxy is needed to connect to adresses outside of the internal uni network. Their guide mentions 4 different proxies for http, https, ftp and socks. All of them have different adresses and ports. Where can I set these proxies up?

Philosophy is looking for a black cat in a dark room. Metaphysics is looking for a black cat in a dark room that isn't there. Religion is looking for a black cat in a dark room that isn't there and shouting "I found it!". Science is looking for a black cat in a dark room with a flashlight.

Thanks, I've already taken a look at that and at the proxy article, but I can't seem to see the connection between what this article describes and what the Proxy at my uni is supposed to do. It's really easy to do on android for example, which has just some additional settings right there in the wifi connection setup.
