Hostapd + wpa_supplicant failure with different interfaces

Hello folks,

I just wanted to start the AP configured on my notebook, which worked this summer without problems.

Situation is:
My wireless card supports running two interfaces at the same time. So I added an interface ap0 and configured hostapd.
So, in summer, my notebook was connected to the HotSpot driven wireless network of the campsite and supplied it's own wireless network
to the other mobile devices of our team (so not everyone hat to enter unique hostpot accounts on their phones all the time).

This worked very well for two weeks. Last week, I wanted to stream media to a dedicated notebook on a projector and wanted to start the access point again.
It wasn't possible to start it and due to missing internet connection, I couldn't work out a solution.

After some research today, I found this thread. It states that there are problems when hostapd and wpa_supplicant are running at the same time. So I stopped netctl-auto and tried to start hostapd again and it worked.

So the acutal question is: Is it possible to run wpa_supplicant (netctl) and hostapd at the same time? They are working on different interfaces, but still have problems. And why did it work in summer? The network on the campsite wasn't secured, but if I'm not completely wrong, the connection is managed by wpa_supplicant, anyway.

Any ideas on this?
