swisscom hotspot driving me nuts

Hi, I have a strange issue with a Swisscom public hotspot in Switzerland, which works just fine for me in Android and Windows, but not with Arch linux. It has a captive portal, so when you connect and open your web browser, you should be redirected to the login page. However, on Arch Linux nothing happens. The IP address is from the same subnet that my android phone uses, the assigned name server is the same, the default gateway is also the same, and yet after connecting and opening up the web browser, nothing at all happens, the host name cannot be resolved, I cannot even ping the name server.

Again, on Windows all works fine, just as it does on Android.

On Arch Linux I tried connecting with NetworkManager, and since I suspected it might be a problem with NM I also tried connman, but the result is exactly the same. No data coming through at all.

Does anyone have an idea what else I might try?

Thanks for any ideas!
