[SOLVED] gcc-multilib and gcc are in conflict. Remove gcc?

I'm trying to install Quartus II as per the wiki instructions . It says that I need the package lib32-libpng12 but when I try to install it from the AUR I get the conflict:

gcc-multilib and gcc are in conflict. Remove gcc?

Am I supposed to remove GCC? Is that even safe? I found a few threads talking about a similar problem, but no definitive answer, and I didn't want to brick my system.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Multilib
tldr; if you enabled multilib because you are running on a 64-bit install then you need the gcc-muiltilib which will remove gcc.

Yes, gcc-multilib replaces/provides gcc.  See the note here.

gcc and gcc-multilib are in conflict on my machine as well.  I can't seem to uninstall gcc though
when I run sudo pacman -R gcc
I get: error: target not found: gcc
huh?

Please do not necro bump old threads, especially solved ones.

Note in this case your issue is definitely not the same: gcc cannot conflict with something if it is not even installed.  Open your own thread, and post the complete output or error message.

Closed.
