Help: $DISPLAY is not set or cannot connected to the X server

Hello, I met with a problem that when I tried to start my KDE the screen would display this error message:
$DISPLAY is not set or cannot connected to the X server.
And I also have a Xfce4 desktop, and it can be started normally. I've searched this problem on google but not get any solution, so is there anyone who can help me? Thanks.

c3kay, that is a very old thread - there was no real solution there and what was discussed is no longer applicable in arch (rc.conf).

Sush, how do you start X?  Do you us a display manager, or startx?  If a DM, which one?  If startx/xinit, what is in your ~/.xinitrc?
