I'm currently running i3 wm on 4.3.3-3-ARCH but am having problems with dialogs showing characters as black blocks. I assumed this is due to missing fonts, but haven't been able to determine what's missing.
The fonts I've recently installed after searching the web for similar problems include:
noto-fonts 20151224-2
perl-font-ttf 1.05-1
ttf-amiri 0.108-2
ttf-ancient-fonts 2.59-2
ttf-bitstream-vera 1.10-10
ttf-dejavu 2.34-2
ttf-droid 20121017-4
ttf-freefont 20120503-4
ttf-inconsolata 20151221.480630d-1
ttf-liberation 2.00.1-5
ttf-linux-libertine 5.3.0-3
ttf-monaco 6.1-2
ttf-ubuntu-font-family 0.83-1
xorg-fonts-type1 7.7-1
ttf-amiri 0.108-2
ttf-ancient-fonts 2.59-2
ttf-monaco 6.1-2
https://www.dropbox.com/s/7pba0dvuggdpx … s.png?dl=0 shows the problem in LibreOffice 5.0.4.2, although it has happened in other applications as well.
I haven't seen anything obvious in ~/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log, running LibreOffice from the command line doesn't show any errors and drop-down menus all display fine.
Any hints on how I can track this down?
Thanks very much,
Alistair

I've this problem since for a while and didn't found a solution yet.

With missing fonts you usually get empty white rectangles, yours looks more like graphics rendering issue. Please post your graphics specs and what drivers you use.

Thanks for the tip! That was indeed the problem. After installing
xf86-video-intel everything is fine (I hadn't installed any drivers
explicitly before that). For the record:

No change for me. I'd installed xf86-video-ati already and use the mesa drivers.

Maybe take a look at https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=208195 which is discussing the same symptoms.

I reported the bug here:
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/sho … i?id=98336
Someone suggested to enable experimental features in LO and then:
export SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk3
and launch libreoffice.
This works for me (I am on radeonsi driver).
Putting the "export SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk3" in the /etc/profile should provide me a correct workaround.
