ADSL connection stops working every sometime

Hi!

I configured my ADSL connection with the pppoe tools, eth0 configured as "eth0 up" and I succeed to connect the internet.
My problem is that every sometime like an hour the internet connection just stop working for a few seconds.

While surfing, suddenly internet pages are not loaded (firefox stuck is "looking up....").
After a few more seconds (from 30 up to 1 minute) everything is fine again and I can keep surfing the internet.
This happens something like every hour...

When it happened (in the very first seconds) I ran "ping X" and ping was just stuck with no output (I killed it).
Then I ran pppoe-status and everything seems to be fine:

[itay@myhost ~]$ pppoe-status
pppoe-status: Link is up and running on interface ppp0
ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
          inet addr:88.155.95.145 P-t-P:88.155.95.1 Mask:255.255.255.255
UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1492 Metric:1
          RX packets:160 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:246 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:3
          RX bytes:82005 (80.0 Kb) TX bytes:39861 (38.9 Kb)

After a few seconds I run those commands again and their output was:

[itay@myhost ~]$ pppoe-status
pppoe-status: Link is attached to ppp0, but ppp0 is down
[itay@myhost ~]$ ping X
ping: unknown host X

Sometimes running pppoe-status again prints:

pppoe-status: Link is down -- could not find interface corresponding to pppd pid 4703

After 30-60 seconds, their output was fine again and everything was back (without any change of mine).

I check the connection on WinXP and it didn't happen, it also didn't happen with other distros...

Here are some lines from /var/log/everything.log that may help:

My driver is:

[itay@myhost ~]$ hwdetect --show-net
NET : fealnx mii ppp_generic slhc

What's the problem? What should I do?
Thanks,
Itay.

Re: ADSL connection stops working every sometime

May not be the solution, but you could have problems if you configure eth0 as dhcp (as their is most likely no dhcp server present).

Re: ADSL connection stops working every sometime

I still have this problem... sad
I found from an old document that the problem might be in the driver I use (fealnx): http://www.scyld.com/pipermail/eepro100 … 02631.html
I tried to install myson803 from here: ftp://ftp.scyld.com/pub/diag/ but I got a lot of errors during compilation..

Do you have any idea what can I do?
Thanks,
Itay.
