Firefox unable to use gtk-font-name in .config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini

For about 2 weeks now, without any apparent change I am unable to use my global gtk3 font with Firefox (or Thunderbird for that matter).

A simple config example:

[Settings]
gtk-font-name=Montserrat 9
gtk-theme-name=Arc

It looks like Firefox is not matching the name correctly because I can still increase the font size with the settings.ini file but I always end up with the default font.
The only other font names I got working are: "Serif, Sans-Serif, Mono, $randomstring Bold, $randomstrong Black". Almost as if Firefox is unaware of all my system fonts or is unable to read/find them.

The font is correctly installed and works with all other gtk3 apps:

$ fc-match Montserrat
Montserrat-Regular.otf: "Montserrat" "Regular"

I am completely out of ideas with this one.

Strange, it works on one of two near-identically configured plasma desktops . . . I'll post back if I figure it out, but I probably won't.

Re: Firefox unable to use gtk-font-name in .config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini

It was this setting:

gfx.font_rendering.fontconfig.fontlist.enabled

Setting it to false results in the expected font rendering.

Confirmed! Thanks!

I realize that on this machine that needed the fix, I've got infinality set up, while the machine without infinality didn't need this fix.

Re: Firefox unable to use gtk-font-name in .config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini

This setting in firefox can be used as a workaround for the messed up font matching since Firefox 44, as was discussed in this thread. However, I noticed recently, that firefox was crashing a lot, and it stopped crashing when I returned to setting it to true. At that point I realized, that my font issue was fixed (setting the right Variant of DejaVu Sans). But your issue indicates that the font matching in firefox is still not working properly, so maybe you should check the bug reports referenced in the other thread.
