SOLVED Chrome slowness - anyone else experiencing a poor UX lately?

Hi guys,

Both chromium 52.0.2743.85-2 & google-chrome-dev 54.0.2816.0-1 have been crawling for me in the last week.

Since they both seem to have the same issue, I'm thinking it must be a dependency like font rendering or X11 intel driver on my T460s.

The symptoms are slow loading windows or draws in X11.

Hopefully we can figure this out!

Chromium works fine for me. Have you tried moving/nuking your profile?

Hi there Jason,

You mean `rm -rf ~/.config/chromium/` or creating a new one?

I don't think it will work because chromium and google-chrome-unstable IIUC have different profiles. I'm also logged in twice, one is a work, another is personal. All combos are _slow_. Drat.

I had very high memory usage and general slowness in Chromium, yes. I used to use Gnome3 (which is very heavy). I since swapped to Xfce and the difference in speed and responsiveness is very noticeable.

Have you seen this (poorly titled) thread:

I am not quite sure if it was the 4.7 kernel, or the fact I installed different GL drivers, but things are back to normal now.
