[solved] Segfault when starting any program after running Lumina

Starting programs fail after the latest system update with a segmentation fault. It happens when X is running; programs in autostart such as Thunderbird are up and working, but mplayer, for instance, always crashes immediately. Konversation (IRC client) auto starts and connects to Freenode, but when I enter a slash in order to join a channel it crashes also. Sometimes I can start xterm from KRunner, sometimes not.

Systemd dumps a stack trace referring to libc and libXcursor; and the update contained glibc 2.24-1 -> 2.24-2. But downgrading to the previous version didn't help. Additionally alsa, gcc (+multilib,+lib32), curl, libpng, ffmpeg, lcms, kwayland, firefox, some python stuff and talloc were updated. After that I also installed lumina-desktop, where the issues happened first. No success with removing all (-Rsnc). And now I'm really confused if either an update or something Lumina has changed on my system is to blame.

Any idea how to track down the issue?

I'm running LXQt (and Plasma).

Re: [solved] Segfault when starting any program after running Lumina

Post the output of commands or stack traces in [ code ]-tags

Take care of the usual suspects, like having the intel microcode updates configured and installed

Two days ago (update Aug/07) my system worked like a charm. And I don't play with microcode.

You should.  Or at least ensure that your processor does not require it.

Re: [solved] Segfault when starting any program after running Lumina

Hi,

I add the exact same problem. I solved it by removing "~/.icons/default", I think that Lumina may have changed something there.

But I was stupid. I should have kept a copy of the 'index.theme' to know what was wrong. Ocye, if you are in the same situation, please tell me what is the content of the file. ;-)

Unbelievable, that does the trick!

Moved the folder from home to temp and all is fine.

Thanks a lot, yannickr. I would have never suspected this file or folder.

Re: [solved] Segfault when starting any program after running Lumina

Yanncikr,
you are a real life saver ... smile
I was stuck with exactly the same problem during 2 days. I had to use another account on my PC (one that did not logon via lumina) to get something done. Since with the other account everything worked I was sure the problem was a config file in my home folder. But as Oyce said, I never suspected such his file !

There are more problems with lumina BTW. After I installed it, I logged out and I tried to re-login via lightdm into lumina and I couldn't.
I'll file a bug.
