Detect a network and choose network profile

Hello ,

I use my laptop to connect at school and at home.
I'd need ifplugd to do those things :

At home :
if cable is plugged in eth0 , disconnect wifi (ath0), and get a static IP
if no-cable is plugged , use ath0 with a static IP over a non-protected network

At school :
connect with ath0 with wpa_supplicant to the network and then run dhclient ath0.

I'm currently able to tell ifplugd to run one config or the other , but I can't find the way to make him auto detect were I am.

Does anybody have a clue?

Thx.
P.S: I cannot base the solution on a MAC configuration (at least at school) because there are many different routers, and that I have to be able to connect at anyone.

Re: Detect a network and choose network profile

Hello,
thx for your links but it doesn't solve all my problems big_smile
I tryed netswitch, but I only get 1 profile and it is "disconnect all devices". And when I select it, the program freeze.
The problem with the topic u suggested me is that at mine school, there are differents networks (school and public-school) and I can use only one of them ... so the solution of getting the most powerfull signal doesn't work ... And anyway at home i don't use neither WEP nor WPA ... so I cannot use this kind of solution.
I thought about using the profile manager but I think that it's a little bit boring to have to choose the profile at boot ... I'd prefer to have something more automatic.
Atm i'm using a script which ask me at boot where I am ... but it's boring to use ...

Thx a lot

No, I used to use ifplugd once ... long ago. Dunno if it is still available and working.
