[SOLVED] Random characters in terminal, Firefox

I just spun up my first Arch Linux VM in Virtualbox and am loving every minute of it -- no clunky desktop environment, no unneeded crap, just the basics that I'll actually use.

I've run into a problem though with some weird characters that keep popping up. It happened yesterday in a file that I opened with Vim, but at the time I attributed it to sharing the file between my VM and host OS (Windows 10). Now, though, I keep seeing it in Firefox wherever there's formatted code:

I've been searching the forums and can't quite find anything suggesting what might be the problem. I appreciate any help you can provide (and I can provide any additional information if it will help).
