Hi guys,
I'm following the wiki to configure my wireless network, and try to manually connect to it with :
wpa_supplicant -D nl80211,wext -i wlp3s0 -c<(wpa_passphrase "mySSID" "myKey")It never connects and got this "ath: phy0: DMA failed to stop in 10 ms" message, and the output looks like :

It looks like the password has failed when connecting to your wifi network, For a sanity check you have not entered "myKey" but your actual password for your wifi? Can you connect to your wifi with other devices without problem?

Yes, I have entered the correct password and several other devices are connected to this network

The AP tells you that
wlp3s0: CTRL-EVENT-SSID-TEMP-DISABLED id=0 ssid="WiFi_Freebox" auth_failures=1 duration=10 reason=WRONG_KEY
You're providing the wrong key.
This
wpa_supplicant -D nl80211,wext -i wlp3s0 -c<(wpa_passphrase "mySSID" "myKey")
should probably read
wpa_supplicant -D nl80211,wext -i wlp3s0 -c<(wpa_passphrase "WiFi_Freebox" "<myKey>")
Where "<myKey>" would be "supersecret1234".
Did you notice that some passphrases can be troublesome to be input this way (and require a file input)?
Did you btw. have trouble with wifi-menu or why are you trying wpa_supplicant directly?
Offline
I'm 100% sure of my key, it works for other devices. I have tried to put it in a file, it did not work. The wifi-menu approach neither, I also have this "ath: phy0: DMA failed to stop in 10 ms" message.
Anything you'd like me to do to diagnose the problem ?

Pass nohwcrypt=1 to ath9k and check whether the AP has a MAC filter.
Can you access other WIFI spots with the device?
There's this claim that wpa_passphrase would generate bad keys:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=76876
The second last comment there suggests to use the unencrypted key...

Can you connect through other means on that laptop? Dual-boot with another OS, NetworkManager, etc. If you can't connect with other methods, it may be a hardware issue.
Offline
Yes I think it's an hardware issue as I can't connect via any other mean. I tried with ubuntu and I have the same problem ![]()

Did you try other access points and disabling HW encryption?
Offline
Yes, with the same unsuccessful results ![]()

add "ps_enable=0 btcoex_enable=0 nohwcrypt=1" and cross-check the hardware on windows.
Offline
I have no version of windows installed, so I can't check. No difference with the new options.
Also tried to recompile kernel with what's said here:
https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/ath9k
Not sure I did it correctly as I never compiled kernel before, but it didn't not solve anything.
Offline
Maybe not related but I had a similar problem (right WPA password, can't connect), but in my case my network card was blocked by kernel (soft blocked):
# rfkill list
# rfkill unblock wifiOffline
Nope it's not blocked

Can your PC detect the wireless network? ie
wifi-menuif you cant see any networks maybe your wireless drivers have been blocked or removed for some reason.
lspci -kIs your wifi card using the correct module and kernel?
Had an issue a while back where network manager was being stupid and I couldn't connect to any wireless network
Have you tried using netctl instead? i.e.
cp /etc/netctl/examples/wireless-wpa /etc/netclThen manually entering your wifi settings into /etc/netcl/wireless-wpa then:
netctl start/enable wireless-wpaOffline
I can detect the networks, but the connection still fail with both method
Offline
You can probably access the networks unsecured or using WEP?
(if turned off on the AP and using simply wifi-menu)
Offline
It seems that I can't turn the encryption off, so I just tried with WEP, but it's not worthing neither.
I have a temporary solution which is to use a wifi dongle.
Offline
Just a suggestion. I use connman https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Connman fairly simple, can handle bluetooth.

When you try connect to a network it should create a profile for you... have a look in
cd /etc/netctl/ And see if a profile exists, if it does make sure that that every thing is correct ie your SSID and key are within (quotes) 'SSID' or 'Key' and the interface is correct.
wlp<something>
I had a problem with automatic networks detail being entered incorrectly a while back.
if not then make a profile and enter your details manually:
cp /etc/netctl/examples/wireless-wpa /etc/netctl/mv /etc/netctl/wireless-wpa /etc/netctl/Your-Networknano /etc/netctl/Your-NetworkEnter your details according to the template then:
netctl start Your-NetworkOffline
It seems that I can't turn the encryption off
What kind of access point is that?? (Router? Model?)
Offline
Good news guys !
I have received a new wlan card : problem solved ![]()
I don't know exactly what wasn't working with the hardware as I could still detect the networks around, but it wasn't able to verify the WPA key.
Offline
Uh, um, admins/mods are going to ask you to mark your thread as [Solved].
Edit: Congratulations.

sometimes changing the channel of the access point helps. it looks like hardware can no longer stably operate at some frequencies.

culturbt, please pay attention to the dates on threads. This thread is almost seven years old and marked [SOLVED]. Please do not necrobump.
Closing.
