[Solved?] Ping, Curl, and wget not downloading after package updates

A few days ago I installed updates to my laptop. Soon after, Pacman/Aura was unable to download packages or update libraries.

In my attempt at diagnosis, I discovered that Curl and Wget are not able to download files either (which explains the initial symptom). Ping is also non-functional for non-local addresses (gives "system error") but seems to be working for local ones.

Google Chrome is working (and how I'm posting this).

I'm also on Hotel WiFi; last time I was here I was able to install updates, so I kinda doubt that alone is the issue.

I've looked and not seen any recent update issue related to this reported... so where to look next?

If you have "wins" in nsswitch.conf, make sure winbindd is running.

Good call. Something in the update must have disabled it. Doh!

Edit- Nope, enabling and starting said service didn't fix the issue.

Killed Ip6... seems to be trying. Slow and timing out but that may be the hotel wifi getting bogged down.

edit- reset my wifi connection, seems to be working...
