Did some searching on the forums here for "Strange font" "Unreadable font startup" and the like and was unable to find anything. Anyway, this is an acer cb3-131 chromebook and when it boots up the "dmesg bootup" text is unreadable. Here is a pic of the text during bootup:

See this after selecting "arch" from the grub menu.

I had pretty much the same problem: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=218626
I rebuilt the ramfs and it somehow disappeared. To this day I unfortunately don't know where it came from and how I got rid of it, but maybe it helps you.
